Portland bassist Dan Schulte's band Strange Pilgrims has been steadily gaining access to larger venues playing original music of the modern jazz lineage. The playing is heartfelt and sincere and the tuneful compositions provide plenty of room for improvisation.

Mr. Schulte has appeared with a lengthy list of well known jazz artists, including with Andrew Hill, Jim Pepper, Roswell Rudd, Jerry Hahn, Gordon Lee, Ralph Black and Ronnie Steen, Violinist Rob Thomas, Dick Berk, John Handy, Nancy King, Randy Porter, Chuck Marohnic, Rob Schepps, John Stowell, Dan Balmer, Darrell Grant, Dan Faehnle, Gary Versace, Kelly Joe Phelps, Shirley Nannette, Dave Evans, Dave Valdez, Matt Lemmler, Cheryl Alex,Bert Wilson, Geoff Lee and Mel Brown.

He has appeared at the Monterey Jazz festivals, Audi Jazz Festival, Cathedral Park Jazz Festival, Mt.Hood Festival of Jazz, Bumbershoot Arts Festival, Earshot, Portland Jazz festival and Vancouver Wine and Jazz festivals. He teaches at Portland State University and lives in Portland with his wife and 3 children.
